Apparently The Girt Dog of Ennerdale was 100% a thylacine...or hyena..or...
I had a very odd Face Book Messenger chat yesterday. It seems that "Mike97" stated that whatever I had concluded in my The Girt Dog of Ennerdale publication was wrong.
Now I know how many copies (zero copies if you are interested) of a book sells on my online store so I responded with "You have not read the book have you?" I was told that he did not need to as a certain "cryptozoological centre" had proven that either a thylacine or escaped tiger were involved. There was the outside chance that a striped hyena was involved.
That is not 'proven' is it? "It is definitely 100% a thylacine that had been brought to the UK and escaped!" and then adding "We are not sure as other evidence indicates that it could well have been a tiger or mystery feline" is fantasy. The hyena theory I know the source of. It was me. I was given information from certain sources that I put into an article and sent to a certain bunch of cryptozoologists and when I later stated the information was found to be incorrect I was told it didn't matter because "It made a jolly good story!" Thankfully my name was removed from the item!
It was A but could have been B with the possibility of C having been the culprit is NOT proven. I did what all of these great and noted cryptozoologists never bothered doing. We used to call it research before copy and paste became the norm. I tracked down copies of the original sources and newspaper accounts as well as accurate -not the rephrased/re-edited/fake- statements from the time.
So I was asked to send Mr Idiot a copy of my book to prove what I had concluded (which as far as Mr Idiot knew could have been anything). "What's your address?" I asked. There was a long pause then "I don't give my address out. You can send me a pdf" Yeah, a pdf that then ends up online to be illegally downloaded and steal potential revenue from sales. I told him I'd send him a copy but not a pdf and then I got the "Worried? Scared you'll show people how bad your research is. No reason not to send me a pdf!"
Since he asked I explained about anonymous people illegally uploading to allow illegal downloading and as I had lost thousands (a slight understatement) from people doing this before I never allowed downloads from the store or supplied pdf.
There were a few mild insults at which point I blocked him. Strangely (?) today I had a polite request for a copy of The Girt Dog of Ennerdale "for research purposes". I sent a link pointing out how cheap the book was on the online store considering how much I had paid to get the original source material so it was saving him a small fortune. No. Apparently I was proving I was not a serious researcher by not sending this person a pdf.
Welcome to 2019 everyone! Everyone uses false names/internet pseudonyms and either steal or try to get original material in other ways so that they can use it as their own work. Who could these people be?
Aren't ISPs useful!
If you want to believe the fantasy is real then so be it. If you really want to know the facts with full reference sources by my book. Remember it took decades of research before getting to the facts.

How Can Morals Can Be A Very Tough Thing
It is no secret that I could really use money. Mainly to eat since apparently that is essential. So imagine my surprise at hearing from a tabloid journalist who wanted to talk to me about the 1977-2013 period and my work running the Exotic Animal Register and acting as a UK police forces consultant.
Imagine my bigger surprise at the amount being offered. It would take care of financial problems but that in itself made me very suspicious. I asked "What do you want to cover in the interview?" That is when I saw the money disappearing.
As much background as I could give on my police forces consultation and especially any incidents that the police might have covered up. Stuff like names, ranks and contact details of the Police Wild Crimes Officers involved.
Oh, and as detailed a map of where cats such as puma are seen regularly.
The names of two female academics I worked with were mentioned and the questions were digging for any sleaze there.
I said the amount offered was nowhere near enough. "I can go up by another grand but that's it" I was told.
My response was still no.
As far as I am concerned I gave a promise to both observers, police officers and, yes, even MAFF and DEFRA, that everything we discussed was in the strictest confidentiality. I am a naturalist and my interest was in studying the animals reported even if that could only be carried out via accumulating many hundreds of reports.
Public Records Act, Official Secrets Act are all just papers. They mean nothing but my word -old fashioned concept maybe- as far as I am concerned my bond. In the past I have severed links with people who gave their word and then broke it.
I know full well why the most up to date and accurate map of sightings was requested. I know of two hunters who are willing to go out and shoot a non native cat for the money and I was told two days ago that they had agreed to hunt on behalf of "a certain tabloid"....which this reporter worked for. Coincidence? "By my word and actions no harm to cause to any wild animal" means just that. Blood money was being offered.
As for "What did you both get up to on all those quiet lonely nights?" I expect no better from tabloid journalists.
So no quick financial fix! As for the title "Morals Can Be A Very Tough Thing" well, no. Not so much being tough but doing the right thing.
The idea of taking money and throwing away all principles just does not even come into my mind. It's a pity that so many out there who are "British Big Cat Veterans" of 5-6 years do not understand that -it is studying the non native animals that is important not trying to get intop local newspapers or on TV.

I'm exhausted posting to myself.
Do any of you understand how long it takes to write posts and add images then edit before posting?
I am getting nothing out of this at all so time to take a back seat and get on with writing another book no one will buy.

French UFO Abductions: Far Too Few?
French UFO Abductions: Far Too Few? was a short talk by Ron Westrum and is both interesting and annoying at the same time.
Annoying in that Westrum looks at abduction reports with his main sources of knowledge being, it seems, Budd Hopkins and David Jacobs -the non peer reviewed work of both men has fallen into disrepute and considering this -remember that I supported Hopkins from his early work and Jacobs- that is a big problem.
The other big problem is that Westrum chose France. Now logically Close Encounters of the Third Kind do not work like that: there is no real border when it comes to UFOBs (alleged constructed craft) and one audience member does try to ask "Why just France?" because you are dealing with one country on the Western European continent and Westrum points out how small the population of France is compared to that of the United States -hence the odd playing with numbers.
We get the casual racism expected in ufology and which seems to stump Westrum for a response. Such as why don't the French report aliens -"Maybe they're English (the aliens)!" and why not as many abductions as in the US? "Maybe it's the garlic!"
sigh
Back in the late 1980's -updated in the early 1990's- I produced a chunky paper titled Close Encounters of the Third Kind in France and I believe there were over 200 reports listed and in the last few years I have stumbled upon reports not listed at the time. There have been some interesting French TV documentaries on UFOs and for the most part not sensationalist or jokey. There seems to be evidence of missing time in some cases and in others of "Ruth Syndrome" (as outlined in detail in UFO Contact?) That book also included some early French CE3K cases and Contact: Encounters With Extraterrestrial Entities? looks at the fact that France has official UFO investigators team and looked at other French cases. In Unidentified - Identified France was referred to again -as was Belgium its closest neighbour. What I found disappointing was that Westrum seemed to not have much knowledge on France and CE3K/abduction cases there.
My books have tried to show that these reports are not just from the United States where there is a far bigger publicity machine. Reports just as detailed and interesting.
"Why France?" indeed since there are detailed reports from Germany -pages 80-130 of Contact look at reports from Germany of CE3Ks and alleged abductions -some having never been published in English before.
The question is not "Why are aliens not abducting thousands of French people?" but "Why do ufologists in the United States claim there are 200-400 alien abduction cases per month?"
If you go onto You Tube you will see that figure quoted. But Jacobs and Hopkins claimed that hundreds of millions of people around the world have been abducted and that figure is pure hog-wash. Two men carrying out non peer reviewed work made that claim based on guessing and adding to guessing and not on anything evidence based. I believe Westrum's talk and reference to chatting with Jacobs on the subject proves this.
As for why French percipients might not report abductions perhaps it is because abductions are very rare rather than ten every hour? Also, many alleged abductees in the United States are alone at the time and there are tell-tale signs as to why they may be experiencing what they report. Rather like "UFO Waves" that are actually more amalgams of all types of phenomena than extraterrestrial craft it seems the whole "abduction phenomenon" is vastly exaggerated and not as common as we are led to believe.
Westrum seems to accept that these cases are real in some sense and if he believes and trusts the work of Hopkins and Jacobs he is not getting the real picture. That comes from years of research.
Trying for a statistical analysis of something often misreported and represented by hoaxes, psychological events or reports fabricated by ufologists (for which there is ample evidence) is pointless. Looking at why most seemingly genuine reports do not conform to "the Greys" or the scenarios established by certain ufologists?
"We have no idea so let's do a statistical analysis of something we have no real information on" is not a good idea.

A Primordial Black Hole or Planet 9?
Why I bother posting I have no idea. No comments or even book saleas so maybe we really are in "The New Age of Illiteracy" as some claim.
Anyway, speculation as well as a lot of fear mongering through absolute ignorance of bits and pieces gleaned (cut and pasted) from online dubious news sources -THIS is why you need to read real printed things.
Firstly, considering we have discovered other dwarf planets in our solar system and that took a lot of observation and study, there is still a very strong belief that there is a physical Planet 9 out there. If you have watched any of the previous videos I posted you will have had information on some of the bodies beyond Pluto.
You will also note that behind every astronomical "fact" there is "We believe that, if what we have theorised is correct then this could--" There is a LOT of guessology based on theories rather than fact -because facts are not there Science has to theorise on "possibilities".
Could aliens be using one of our moons (again -posted a video previously) to spy on us? "They" can't be based on our Moon (closest) as we have it under observation all the time -let's ignore the dark side there, right...oh and all the large asteroids that pass Earth but large enough to hide possible probes.
This is the problem -astronomers assume everything is going to be "alien probes" for various reasons which allows them to ignore things like UFO reports....including the possibility that some of those objects MIGHT be alien lander probes.
Science "deals in facts"...no, it deals in theories that are used to find facts. Even if those facts are themselves only theories based on the "possibility" of A, B and C being real themselves rather than just theory.
The idea that there is a primordial black hole (PBH) at the edge of our solar system is just theory. Lots of guessology based on what we 'know' and what we know is not 95% (at best) guess work and theory. It was a case to present a theory and that is it and, as far as I can see, the paper involved has not been peer reviewed so it could turn out to be nonsense.
We are NOT however about to be swallowed up by a PBH. If -IF- it exists it has been in its place for millions of years -Anton Petrov explains things in this video.
