Proof of aliens about to happen?

I thought this might interest some out there...humans.  Not aliens.

EXCLUSIVE: Proof of aliens about to happen? UFO research becomes 'mainstream science'

FORGET the SETI hunt for aliens, a team of scientists are bringing the hunt for UFOs a bit closer to home.

The UFODATA group is crowd funding because governments will not fund the research

A team of scientists and other experts have set up UFODATA to seriously investigate Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) seen on Earth and beyond.

The www.ufodata.net website, which is seeking backing through crowd-funding websites, wants the subject to be taken seriously.

Mainstream scientists are involved in the Search for Intelligent Extraterrestrial Life Institute (SETI), with looks light years into the cosmos searching for any frequencies coming from alien technologies, but have historically been reluctant to embrace the issue of flying saucer and other UFO sightings.

"This is now possible for the first time in the history of UFO research as a result of an unprecedented convergence of high resolution digital camera technologies, off-the shelf scientific instrumentation, powerful low-cost computing platforms, and ubiquitous high-speed internet access."

The website says: "Our goal is to exploit this technological convergence by building a large network of automated surveillance stations with sophisticated sensors that will monitor the skies 24/7 looking for aerial anomalies.

"After over two years of developing our ideas, making plans, and testing relevant technologies we are now ready to move into the next phase – a ‘proof of concept’ by developing our first working prototype of a fully functioning monitoring station."

The monitoring station will, according to the group, have cameras capable of detecting and recording both an image and spectra, a magnetic sensing unit, instruments to detect microwave and other radiation, and other sensors to record atmospheric and local environmental data.

Alarm triggers will also initiate recording by all the equipment, permitting "capture of a broad range of physical data that can then be analysed by experts."

UFODDATA claims this is because of the black and white divide between believers and non believers and lack of moderate middle ground.

A group spokesman said: "At UFODATA we seek to create a systematic, rigorous science of UFO phenomena.

"Such a science is needed because of misplaced certainties on both sides of the UFO debate.

"Believers 9are) convinced that UFOs are extraterrestrials, and sceptics (are) equally convinced that UFOs do not even exist.

"Our own view is that humanity knows very little about the true nature of unexplained UFO reports, and that the only way to resolve this lack of understanding is through serious scientific study."

The group led by Mark Rodeghier, scientific director and president of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies, in Chicago, USA, and Alexander Wendt, professor of Political Science at the Ohio State University, claims technology is now so advanced and available to the masses, the skies can be scoured night and day all year.

Mother Flees Flat After Ghost Photobombs Her Selfie...No Orbs?

Oh please....

A bad photo that features a 'ghost' (almost looks like her nose and lip) and that's it?  Oh, two undertakers mistakenly called round weeks before.

This is a total non-event and my advice is, if you are going to take "selfies" then use a proper camera!

Mother Flees Flat After Ghost Photobombs Her In Scary Selfie
image
A mother has fled her flat after she was photobombed in a selfie by what appears to be a ghost.

Natasha Boden, 26, a mother-of-one from Blackpool, Lancashire, took the picture of herself after dyeing her hair blonde, only to find the shape of a spirit face on her shoulder in the resulting image.

Even more unsettling was the fact that undertakers had mistakenly called at her door six weeks earlier asking to collect a dead body. They had the wrong address.

Ms Boden checked into a hotel for the night after seeing the spooky selfie and has ended the tenancy on her flat. She and her partner, Mark Donohue, and two-year-old daughter Dolly are currently looking for somewhere else to live.

She said she was reduced to tears when she zoomed in on the selfie and will not return to the property because she thinks it might be haunted.

Ms Boden said: “My boyfriend is moving everything out of the flat. I can’t go back there. I’m absolutely petrified.
image
“I’ve never believed in ghosts or anything like that. If someone else had taken the photograph I would think it was a load of rubbish but the face is so clear.

“I’d just dyed my hair so I decided to take a quick selfie to see what it looked like, and as I flicked through the photographs I realised there was the face of a man lurking near my right shoulder.
“I was terrified. I was alone in the flat and I knew I had to get out immediately. It was 11pm but I checked into a hotel and asked my boyfriend to meet me there. There was no way I would be able to sleep after what I had seen.

“The hotel room cost £60 for the night but it was worth it. I don’t think I can ever go back to the flat, so I have called my landlord and handed my notice in to end the tenancy.

“We have only lived in the flat for six months and I really loved living there. I am gutted, but there’s no way I can stay there after what I’ve seen.

“When I first moved in I noticed the floorboards would creak when nobody was there, but I thought it was just because it’s an old building. Now I am having second thoughts.“

“It’s just so weird. Six weeks ago I was sitting in my living room when two undertakers knocked on the door. When I opened the door they said they were there to collect a dead body.

“I told them there was no dead body in my flat but they were adamant. Eventually they came back and apologised and said they had the wrong flat, but it really scared me.

“I’ll never take a selfie on my own again.”

New Dates for Italy’s Neanderthals

Did I not write a short while back that we might be in for more surprises regarding human history?

Saccpastore Neanderthal Skull
(NESPOS)
ROME, ITALY—Radioactive deposits in sediments taken from the inside of two Neanderthal skulls discovered in a gravel pit in central Italy in the early twentieth century have been re-dated by a team made up of researchers from Sapienza University, the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Italian Institute for Geophysics and Vulcanology (INGV).

“The results of our studies show that the Saccopastore remains are 100,000 years older than previously thought—and push back the arrival of Neanderthal man in Italy to 250,000 years ago,” Fabrizio Marra of INGV told The Local, Italy.

This is about the same time that Neanderthals are believed to have arrived in central Europe. The new dates are also in line with the age of 11 stone artifacts that had been discovered with the fossils. To read more in-depth about Paleolithic Europe, go to "Structural Integrity."

NASA Says Fireballs!

Quimper-Corentin: Where “Thunder Fell”

I first posted this back in 2012 so many may have missed it. I've added a little more to the piece but I think it important to remember that Dr Vallee brought this account into Ufology whereas it is more properly a folk or faery tale.

Ufology is so full of confusion and will never "solve" the mystery because it is a huge mixing pot of case histories that have nothing to do with UFOs. For example: someone who has had some possible poltergeist activity in their house saw a Light-in-the-sky (LITS) therefore there may possibly be a UFO connection with said activity....even if the LITS might just have been a satellite or meteor.

Anyway.....

___________________________________________________

This is another case that the learned Dr Vallee has presented as evidence of  “otherworldly” visitors.  The inference is that some form of craft and an entity were seen (the “demon”) at Quimper-Corentin [1].  It needs to be ascertained just what did happen, if possible.

If the object involved was a fireball during a storm or even a meteorite this must be found out.  However, this all hinges on whether or not the object in question did fly off  after what must have been several hours if we take into account what is said to have happened.

The account.

In the year 1620, the cathedral at Quimper-Corentin, France, had a lead covered pyramidal object on its roof.   Between 19:00-20:00 hours, 1st February, 1620, ”thunder fell” on this structure the pyramid caught fire, exploded and then fell to the ground with a tremendous noise.

From various parts of the town people ran to the site but, according to Vallee, what they saw was no ordinary fire.  For in “the midst of the lightning and smoke, a demon, of a green colour, with a long green tail, doing his best to keep the fire going”. According to Lenglet-Dupresney [2], this ‘demon’ was seen by all the observers within the fire, ”sometimes green, sometimes blue and yellow”.

The local authorities gathered  and into the “roaring fire” was thrown a quantity of Agnus dei (Agnus dei was the name given to certain discs of wax impressed with the figure of a lamb and blessed at stated seasons by the Pope), nearly 150 buckets of water and 40-50 cartloads of manure –all  of which must have taken some considerable time to gather as one would doubt that 40-50 cartloads of manure were luckily just hanging about.   When this did not work a consecrated host was placed within a loaf of bread and thrown into the fire –it did not work.   Next, blessed water was mixed with milk given by a nurse “of above reproach” and this was spread (thrown) over the ‘demon’ and burning pyramid.   The ‘demon’ then whistled in a most “horrible fashion” and flew off [3].
This is all Vallee tells us [4].

One has to assume that whatever this ‘demon’ was, if this account is correct, there must have been great energy at work to not just strike and explode a structure but to then continue burning for a considerable time thereafter.

We are not told of weather conditions –could this have been a type of fireball?  If so, were 150 buckets of water and 40-50 cartloads of manure really unable to dampen the fire?

An important event worth re-examining even if it turned out not to be what Vallee claims.  As with the 1790 Liabeuf report of a crashed “UFO”, if this was a true incident then its ramifications could be major –especially if it were ascertained from accounts just what the “demon” looked like.

I forwarded a copy of Vallee’s account along with an enquiry to the French Academy of Sciences Archivist. A brief exchange of e-mails took place.  The year of the incident was checked.  The documents were checked for the location.  Sadly, that was it.  Quimper-Corentin references could not be found though it was known that in one year there was a fire in the steeple following a lightning strike.

It appears that, yet again, Dr. Vallee was guilty of quoting some rather suspicious sources.*  Still widely quoted on the internet –some quoting the “original source” as though they have just discovered the account.

There was no “craft” hitting the church and neither was any “alien” observed though lightning may have caused a slow fire to start and there is an interesting "green devil" theme in old stories which are mentioned, along with this incident at Strange History: http://www.strangehistory.net/2011/06/19/4395/

There was still no UFO nor alien, though!

*When I say dubious accounts I am not referring to those written at the time of the fire.  Those exist.  I think the problem is that Vallee put his own interpretation on the event or, at worst, took someone elses interpretation.  But either way, including it in his book meant that every Ufologist that has never done an ounce of serious research work cites it as a CE IIIK or UFO crash because Dr Vallee says so.

Some Things Strange & Sinister

A "Cold Case" Too Old? The Beast Of Faudiere –Mystery Killer

My intention, a few years back, was to test potential French collaborators on various projects by giving them an assignment that would be tough.

Having proven beyond any real doubt just what The Beast of Gevaudan and what the Girt Dog of Ennerdale had been, I tried long and hard to identify or even get additional information on a French case of 1800.  If an investigator could come up with more than a non-French speaking/reading English idiot could then I'd assume he was acceptable.

With a little extra, here is the account as given in Some More Things Strange & Sinister.
 _______________________________________________________

Believe me, I have spent five years trying to find out more about this report [1].  I have scoured as many of the newspaper titles as I can from the United Kingdom at that time.  However, in the early days news was received in letter form from Englishmen or travellers abroad –everything from food shortages, crime and much more.

It may well be that some other newspaper also published a piece on this but it is more than likely only one did!

This is where French researchers who know the newspaper/local record system can help.

                    “A Letter from Nantes,dated July 19,says,
“Yesterday evening about eight o’clock,a wild
beast devoured two girls, one about twelve, and
the other seven years of age,the daughters of a
farmer in the Commune of Chevroliere.  The
animal immediately after took shelter in the fo-
rest of Faudiere.  It appeared to be larger than
                    a wolf,had a snout about a foot long,and a very
                    formidable set of teeth.”

Of course, folk, especially those living in the country, knew what a wolf looked like.  And certainly no wolf would devour [not wholly I assume] two children even if small and young –running off with a body would be more like it.

So,if not a wolf, just what was The Beast Of Faudiere?

Certainly there were a lot of "Beast of---" back in those days -and there still are!  But the Beast of Benais has been covered well by John Knifton:

But the beast of Faudiere....maybe one day!

NASA Mission Reveals Speed of Solar Wind Stripping Martian Atmosphere

In case you never watched the live conference....

NASA's Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) mission has identified the process that appears to have played a key role in the transition of the Martian climate from an early, warm and wet environment that might have supported surface life to the cold, arid planet Mars is today.

MAVEN data have enabled researchers to determine the rate at which the Martian atmosphere currently is losing gas to space via stripping by the solar wind. The findings reveal that the erosion of Mars' atmosphere increases significantly during solar storms. The scientific results from the mission appear in the Nov. 5 issues of the journals Science and Geophysical Research Letters.

"Mars appears to have had a thick atmosphere warm enough to support liquid water which is a key ingredient and medium for life as we currently know it," said John Grunsfeld, astronaut and associate administrator for the NASA Science Mission Directorate in Washington. "Understanding what happened to the Mars atmosphere will inform our knowledge of the dynamics and evolution of any planetary atmosphere. Learning what can cause changes to a planet's environment from one that could host microbes at the surface to one that doesn't is important to know, and is a key question that is being addressed in NASA's journey to Mars."
MAVEN measurements indicate that the solar wind strips away gas at a rate of about 100 grams (equivalent to roughly 1/4 pound) every second. "Like the theft of a few coins from a cash register every day, the loss becomes significant over time," said Bruce Jakosky, MAVEN principal investigator at the University of Colorado, Boulder. "We've seen that the atmospheric erosion increases significantly during solar storms, so we think the loss rate was much higher billions of years ago when the sun was young and more active."
NASA -Solar Wind Strips Martian Atmosphere

In addition, a series of dramatic solar storms hit Mars' atmosphere in March 2015, and MAVEN found that the loss was accelerated. The combination of greater loss rates and increased solar storms in the past suggests that loss of atmosphere to space was likely a major process in changing the Martian climate.
The solar wind is a stream of particles, mainly protons and electrons, flowing from the sun's atmosphere at a speed of about one million miles per hour. The magnetic field carried by the solar wind as it flows past Mars can generate an electric field, much as a turbine on Earth can be used to generate electricity. This electric field accelerates electrically charged gas atoms, called ions, in Mars' upper atmosphere and shoots them into space.

MAVEN has been examining how solar wind and ultraviolet light strip gas from of the top of the planet's atmosphere. New results indicate that the loss is experienced in three different regions of the Red Planet: down the "tail," where the solar wind flows behind Mars, above the Martian poles in a "polar plume," and from an extended cloud of gas surrounding Mars. The science team determined that almost 75 percent of the escaping ions come from the tail region, and nearly 25 percent are from the plume region, with just a minor contribution from the extended cloud.

Ancient regions on Mars bear signs of abundant water - such as features resembling valleys carved by rivers and mineral deposits that only form in the presence of liquid water. These features have led scientists to think that billions of years ago, the atmosphere of Mars was much denser and warm enough to form rivers, lakes and perhaps even oceans of liquid water.Recently, researchers using NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter observed the seasonal appearance of hydrated salts indicating briny liquid water on Mars. However, the current Martian atmosphere is far too cold and thin to support long-lived or extensive amounts of liquid water on the planet's surface.

"Solar-wind erosion is an important mechanism for atmospheric loss, and was important enough to account for significant change in the Martian climate," said Joe Grebowsky, MAVEN project scientist from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. "MAVEN also is studying other loss processes -- such as loss due to impact of ions or escape of hydrogen atoms -- and these will only increase the importance of atmospheric escape."

The goal of NASA's MAVEN mission, launched to Mars in November 2013, is to determine how much of the planet's atmosphere and water have been lost to space. It is the first such mission devoted to understanding how the sun might have influenced atmospheric changes on the Red Planet. MAVEN has been operating at Mars for just over a year and will complete its primary science mission on Nov. 16.
