Correcting The Record...AGAIN!!

In 1974 there was an alleged UFO crash in the Berwyn Mountains of North Wales. It was nothing alien though a great deal has been made of it.  There is also confusion in some accounts with the 1979 incident that I was involved in and the helicopter I was in "had a bit of a prang" as the flier put it.

Now, yes, as I wrote in Some Things Strange And Sinister, I do have fragments from an alleged "crashed UFO".  Graham Birdsall of UFO Magazine at one point tried everything to get pieces from me including, at one point before a solicitor became involved, threatening to reveal to the UFO community that I "was a British intelligence agent whose job it was to infiltrate UFO groups".  If he had asked nicely at the outset he might have gotten a fragment!

My big mistake was passing along a piece to Margaret Fry and including what I told her was "a completely false account by a hoaxer" but...oh boy.  Despite giving her the results of tests she told me she had the material tested and it "was unlike any material on Earth!"   I go into full detail in the book and the photos of metallic and other fragment are shown in photographs.

I wrote and urged and even spoke to Mrs Fry telling her the facts and asking her not even to mention my name if she decided to publish any of the things she was telling me.  "The truth must out!" she told me.  When her account was published it was all there and my name was included as I was silly enough not to realise that "They" had made sure my informant was discredited!

Then a man, Scott Felton (?) contacted me and re-stated all of Mrs Fry's claims and I made it very -very- clear that her account was wholly wrong and that I had nothing to do with it and nothing more to do with Ufologists on the subject.  Now, my letter to Mr Felton (and email) give my address as Bristol.  So, imagine my surprise when I read this:

" In the mid-90s, Margaret Fry received in the post, a sample of metal (see Appendix Three) from a man in South Wales called Terry Hooper.  He claimed he'd received samples from an airman who stated he'd been involved in clearing up the debris from the Berwyn UFO crash. He decided to pass these on to persons involved in the UFO scene. There is no proof that other samples existed, only the word of Terry Hooper supported the assertion.

That however was just the start. As will become apparent, the supplying of the metal sample to Margaret Fry was an attempt to seed disinformation into the UFO community. Whether Terry Hooper targeted Mrs Fry as he was part of the plot or whether he was not part of the plot and approached Mrs Fry randomly isn't clear as this guy refuses to cooperate. He certainly wouldn't cooperate with me when I approached him. He did claim that he didn't believe the metal had come from a UFO crash, but that could be just him attempting to look innocent."

As this idiot would know if he carried out even the most basic of research -Sach's UFO Encyclopaedia or any number of publications including Flying Saucer Review, BUFORA JOURNAL that I contributed to since becoming an active investigator in 1974, or if he had bothered reading the brief CV I sent him- he would find I have far greater credibility than someone who places Bristol in "South Wales" (?!!).

Also, I had known Margaret Fry from BUFORA as well as Contact (UK) and we corresponded up until the early 1990s until I took a rest.  Had he asked Margaret Fry about me?  BUFORA for whomn I did a lot of work?

No, he decided to make me part of some secret conspiracy and totally ignore everything I explained to him -including a pdf of the chapter from my book dealing with the case- because I would not send him fragments nor be interrogated by him on a subject I made very clear was a hoax and the only reason I supplied Margaret Fry with any fragment was because she asked me to in the hope of finding out if it was the same as another sample she had.

This is British Ufology at its best.  Totally ignore every fact you are given because it does not suit your narrow minded world view so blame an unknown man from South Wales who refuses to cooperate -and Felton knows full well who I am because I just checked the email I sent him and my cv is attached.

John Hanson of The Haunted Skies project has photos of the fragments and my account -I think I may have sent him a fragment, too.

Felton's entry is so defamatory that I think  that I think a solicitor needs to get involved.  Seriously, you try to defame me in print or online you better apologise.

No. No. I NEVER Was So There!

Oh dear.  A friend just back from a trip around Europe tells me the hotel he stayed at in Austria(?) had some dvd for guests.  One was a UFO documentary "The UFO Truth" -he's sure he has seen this with three different titles over the last five years so it's anyone's guess since I can't find it online.

Apparently he laughed out loud when "this fella with bushy dark beard and hair was interviewed in the documentary -it was you! How old is this??"  But it gets worse as he added: "I see from this doc that you are the counterpart of a Soviet AF Intelligence colonel and interviewed USAF personnel at Bentwaters! You Secrets man!"

I have to say that I know the interview he is talking about. It was given to a freelance film company who led me to believe it was for an ARD (German TV) documentary.  It wasn't.  It seems to have been edited and resold several times and the company no longer exists.  They caused a major problem when the narrator stated:

"Terry Hooper is the United Kingdom's answer to Major-General Vasily Alexeyev of the Soviet Air Force, though Hooper denies (coyly) having any military rank"

Yes, I outright told them I had no military rank.  Because I had NO military rank.  Photographs taken by a former colleague of me outside RAF radar stations in the late 1970s were shown to me and I explained them away as what they were. 

It is very likely that this outrageous claim about me led to the arrest of my contact network in the then USSR and I have never heard from one of them since nor been able to track them down.  A similar situation occurred at the start of the Malvinas-Falklands War when my contacts in Argentina were arrested by military police.  Only one got in touch a year later to explain that he was held and treated "roughly" because he was sending information to "an enemy intelligence officer" (me).

I mention in my last book how I was stopped from leading a team to look into reports of Ucu (a sort of South American Sasquatch) as part of the trip would be in Argentina and I was told I would be arrested.

This is why I always insist that I see any recorded interview before broadcast or get a written legal agreement about content.

So if you see that documentary -under any title- ignore what it claims about me.

UFO Encounter by English Woman in Staffordshire, England - FindingUFO

I believe this is an earlier interview.  I really need to dig through my files to see what notes there are on that 1970s Chepstow event as I double checked and not only did the BFSB man destroy everything but BUFORA, at the time, claimed to have lost 300 reports covering a big UFO flap that I sent them (they confirmed receipt by phone).  HOW???

Up until the 1980s and Budd Hopkins book and all the UFO related tv series of that period, I was the only person seriously investigating and cataloguing what I term Alien Entity cases in the UK. 

Most UFO people dismissed accounts as "psychological" while accepting accounts of "alleged" alien craft shooting around the planet.  Made no sense to me.  Of course, there were those who called all of it "psycho-sociological". Others only accepted "Adamski type Venusians" -I rest my case.  Anyway, in the 1970s I up-dated (with absolutely no credit given -BUFORA took that) the UK section of Ted Bloecher's Hum-Cat.

The Roestenberg case always stuck in my mind as my late colleague, Graham F. N. Knewstub of the British Flying Saucer Bureau (BFSB) was pretty convinced by it and he was nobody's fool.

Now, imagine the late 1970s and Chepstow race course where a couple hundred people were working on behind-the-scenes event organising.  They saw a UFO -well described by all.  So, I go to the race course with a BFSB member and the first person I meet is named Roestenberg and so I mention the 1954 sighting and the response was: "Yes, that was my mother"!  I learnt a lot more that night about the event that was never reported by UFO investigators and it made the case more solid.   But as we are talking, someone calls out "Is that it? Is it back?"

That night, and I still cannot believe it but then, I could not explain it away, myself and around 120 people watched bright, upright (ie. on long base) coloured triangles that were a good 2-3 inches above the hills (so around 25-30 feet above ground)  and moving out over water.  At one point I was handed a torch: "You're the expert -you signal them!"  So, for the sake of ensuring I got statements later, I did.  And my signals were responded to.

Even to this day I can't explain it but my BFSB colleague could.  "They are radio towers" to which I responded (confirmed by using night vision binoculars) "There is no tower or towers there".  And he said "That's what they are!"   I then pointed out that they gained altitude -moving at least 2-3 degrees higher and to the left.  "It's cars on the hillside roads" and I pointed out, even showed the map -"No roads!"  As the lights moved out over water I pointed this out and the response was that "They are helicopters!"  Yes, a fleet of helicopters signalling back and no noise -with the breeze coming our way.

Eventually the lights faded away and I got statements and over the next few days, despite the aggressive attitude of the BFSB member, I submitted my full report.  My 'colleague' was appointed that very day to head of investigation and research (it had been my job) and I found that my notes and reports were all destroyed...by the "head of investigation and research" who believed all UFOs were caused by nuclear power stations and close proximity to them (even at the North Pole!).

But I vividly recall the conversation with Mrs Roestenberg's son and all the additional information he gave me.  I kept those notes.

Addendum 

How Accurate Was My Memory

It's rather odd that mentioning the Jessie Roestenberg case and events in 1979 at Chepstow Race Course brought back a lot of memories.

Although it is 37 (37?!) years ago I can still see the view from the spectators box where I stood with Mrs Roestenberg's son.  I can recall the object looking squarish at one point then triangular and vanishing or fading and coming back a different colour and how it duplicated my torch signalling. I remember to the right of the landscape a slight hill, the water in the mid distance and to the rear one hill line and another behind that.

The sighting lasted ten minutes and having seen most phenomena, aircraft and more since that time nothing has ever appeared the same.  I am still stumped and just wish I had all my notes.

So I drew the scene (remember this was a dark evening so every light shone out including beacon tower lights) as I recalled it.  All from memory but then I asked "how accurate is this?"

Here are my two rough illoes:

At the far right of illo 2 you'll notice the sloping hill I mentioned in the other post.

It took a couple of hours but I found a photo taken closer to the Channel than we were and I was surprised -not a bad match!

We would have been looking further to the right so the hill is not seen but what was it?  A map shows that it would have been Beachley.  Where did see lights from traffic -though what we watched and signalled was way above the ground/water.

It fascinates me that I can recall things visually and yet cannot remember names!  In fact, though the names are missing from my memory, I can recall witness reports and sketches or sketches I drew of what they saw and approved going back to 1975.


Oh to have those files again!

Could NASA have harnessed the power of the Antichrist and released him over Los Angeles this week?

That’s the rather far-out conclusion of one UFO fan, after seeing a strange flying humanoid over LA last week.

Many of us might conclude that this was a Michelin-man-style inflatable – but no, some UFO fans it’s more likely to be the Antichrist, or perhaps a shape-shifting alien.

One UFO fan said that the apparition, filmed hovering over LA by three UFO fans, recalled Project Blue Beam – a conspiracy theory where NASA uses the antichrist to start a new religion.

Others suggest that it could be a hologram, or, more boringly, a balloon.

YourNewsWire said, ‘The sight was captured by not one, but three different cameras as a part of a UFO research group’s meet-up.
