Well, That 1930s Incident DOES Exist....But Braemar...

 

I  asked for help in tracking this case down:

Alexander Irvine and a friend were walking in Smiddy Lane when they saw a white light like a meteor. This light brightened and in it a number of figures could be seen moving around. It was regarded locally as the prevision of a nun’s death.

Well, no help.  But what can you expect?  It seems everyone was quoting IntCat or Jerome Clark, and Clark got his info from IntCat. Dogma repeated is still dogma.

So,I put my hand in my pocket and bought a copy of the only book it might possibly be since the reference cited by IntCat is all that is given.

Book arrived. It IS the source though interpretation of what happened is open.  What book? What are the details?  You will have to wait until MY book is published.

This week alone I have corrected -by going to the original sources- 30 reports from Ufology to "cryptozoology" and the reason I know the 'experts' have never read the sources cited is because in the same paragraphs of some are even more events that they would have jumped on.

Do you know how many Ufologists/"cryptozoologists" and others want me to tell them what I find out -these are people who CONSTANTLY quote the sources- thirty (30) all of whom have spouted in word and writing the same incredibly inaccurate 'facts' for decades.

So we know they DO NOT carry out real research.

Oh, and the 1958 Braemar, Deeside CE IIIK incident seems to have been a hoax...by someone at FSR who never thought anyone would check.  And the bat-winged entity from Kent in 1963...in my book I'll show just how complicit FSR was in misleading readers over that one.

We haven't been lied to by World Governments" on UFOs all these decades: we have been lied to by the false "truth-seekers" and still are.

Photographs from a séance with Eva Carrière (1913)

Yes, before Most Haunted, Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures the fraudulent claims had to be read about and people, in their naiivete, saw the photographs and since there was no photo-shop back then they were amazed. I'm guessing more than a few were not, though!

 It is interesting to read and see this.  Back then, cutting paintings of faeries from a book and propping them up around you and taking a few photos (Cottingley Fairies) got national -international- press attention. Chop up a couple photos of dinosaurs and rephotograph those and there is your proof that dinosaurs still existed in the 1920s-1930s (Kasai Rex , etc.).

This remarkable series of photographs are from a book entitled Phenomena of Materialisation by German physician and psychic researcher Baron von Schrenck-Notzing. The book focuses on a series of séances that Schrenck-Notzing witnessed between the years 1909 and 1913 involving the French medium Eva Carrière, or Eva C. Born Marthe Béraud, Carrière changed her name in 1909 to begin her career afresh after a series of seances she held in 1905 were exposed as a fraud. Her psychic performances as Eva C gained the attention of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes mystery series, who believed she was genuine, and also Harry Houdini, who was not so convinced. Another researcher who became interested in her case was Albert von Schrenck-Notzing. A series of tests he devised between the years 1909 and 1913 convinced him that Eva C was the real deal and in 1913 he published his Phenomena of Materialisation detailing the sessions and the reasons for his belief.

It has been noted that these sessions with Schrenck-Notzing verged on the pornographic. Carrière’s assistant (and reported lover) Juliette Bisson would, during the course of the séance sittings with Schrenck-Notzing, introduce her finger into Carrière’s vagina to ensure no “ectoplasm” had been put there beforehand. this would be followed by Carrière stripping nude at the end and demanding another full-on gynaecological exam. Whether the audience members were obliging is up for debate, but reports that Carrière would run around the séance room naked indulging in sexual activities with her audience suggests perhaps so. One can imagine that this deliberate eroticisation of the male audience might go some way to explaining the ease with which these “investigators” believed the psychic reality of the seances. A decision of fraud on their part would distance their involvement somewhat from the special and heightened context of the séances and so cast their complicity in, or at the least witnessing of, sexual activities in the sober (and more judgemental) cold light of day.

The spiritualist debunker Harry Price wrote that the photographs taken by Schrenk-Notzing, rather than proving the reality of Carrière’s mediumship, in fact did just the opposite. In 1920 Carrière was investigated by the Society for Psychical Research in London and an analysis of her ectoplasm revealed it to be made of chewed paper and the ghostly faces as cut from the French magazine Le Miroir. Back issues of the magazine matched some of Carrière’s ectoplasm faces, including Woodrow Wilson, King Ferdinand of Bulgaria and the French president Raymond Poincaré. This is something Schrenk-Notzing tries to address in his book, but with not much success. A 1913 newspaper article explained how “Miss Eva prepared the heads before every séance, and endeavoured to make them unrecognizable. A clean-shaven face was decorated with a beard. Grey hairs became black curls, a broad forehead was made into a narrow one. But, in spite of all her endeavours, she could not obliterate certain characteristic lines.”

Meet "Tayna," the faintest galaxy in the early universe, spotted by Spitzer and Hubble

December 3, 2015: Hunting for faraway galaxies that existed long, long ago is like a fishing trip for astronomers. So far only the "big fish" have been found, bright galaxies that existed just a few hundred million years after the big bang. Now, using the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes, astronomers have caught a "smaller fish," a very compact and faint early galaxy that was forming 400 million years after the big bang, which happened 13.8 billion years ago.

As there are many smaller fish than big fish in the sea, the new finding is evidence for an underlying population of dim galaxies that must have been common in the early universe. Hubble's upcoming successor, the James Webb Space Telescope, should be able to survey this population. But for now, Hubble can do some pioneering work by exploiting a "zoom lens" in space that captures a galaxy that would otherwise not be detectible. The phenomenon is called gravitational lensing, where the intense gravity of a cluster of galaxies magnifies the light of fainter background sources.

Astronomers needed the infrared sensitivity of both the Hubble and Spitzer telescopes to measure the galaxy's great distance through its color, which is affected by the expanding universe.

Zootoca vivipara....did I imagine that?

It appears I am not perfect.  I know.  Calm down. Deep breath.

You see, I saw a pair of Zootoca vivipara (Common lizards) in the garden back in 2005 and 2007 but they are quick little beggars and I never had a camera handy.  Pity really.

The thing is I was just going through my (don't laugh) index cards and saw the one with this information on.  I stared at it and then thought "oh yeah" which shows I have too much junk in my head. I know my late sister had some in her garden around 2004 and that's about a quarter mile from where I live.

I'm glad I kept day books and index cards or I might of thought I'd imagined seeing them!

From The Reminiscences Of A First Whipper-in (1904)

"On October 27th, 1882, when the meet was at Thorpe 

we had another clinking good day after a stormy blustering 

• The largest number of cubs killed in one morning at Bradbury Wood is 

ten, viz : — four and a half brace accounted for at the time, and one 

picked up next morning, making five brace. It may be added that at the 

same time six brace went away before a kill was recorded ! Possibly the 

North Durham hounds have eclipsed this, as I hear on the authority of

their Master, that they once killed in one day the following mixed bag, 

viz. : — a brace of foxes, two cats, one hare, one cock pheasant, 

one weasel, and one hedgehog ! "

Also, you discover a good few horses fell (killed)and everything joyfully recorded yet when you 

read the pages it is disturbing on a scale I had not thought about before. Yes, we know the extent of 

fox killing but this book is typical of its kind at that time: these were the landed gents or people with 

money and they took great pleasure at what they were killing and the numbers killed. Hares (causing 

a bit of an argument because hares were the preserve of the hare hunters), dogs, cats -jolly fun. 

I had never actually considered the psychological make-up of these people -other than the fact that they 

were most definitely "disturbed" because of the enjoyment they got from killing vixens "in cub", cubs and 

really, just about anything else that got in the way. Re-reading Russell's book I wondered what a 

psychologist might make of it all?  Certainly I would not  want to live next door to these people.

The modern myth is that "all" country folk supported the fox hunts and this is actually a proven lie 

-especially if you research the periodicals of the 18th and 19th centuries -it is only when some small 

holders pets or live stock are killed and the impudent wretch takes legal action that we hear the "but 

this is pest control!" excuse.

Looking at the numbers killed by just a few hunts you can see why the true British fox became 

near extinct, in fact there may not be many true bloods in the UK now because many thousands 

of foxes were imported yearly "for the sport of fox-hunting" and every manual on fox-hunting, every 

magazine article as well as interviews with, ahem, as the press called them, "great hunters" made that 

very clear: it was a rousing sport for gentlemen and ladies.

Then we have the "damn sad" state where earths are opened and searches made but no foxes to 

kill -"Where are they all -we killed at least thirty last season!" It is almost like the sociopath killer 

who looks around a body strewn bar because he can't find anyone else to kill.  He shrugs and asks 

"Where have they all gone -none left?"

It took between 1977-2010 to compile the data in Red Paper: Canids and until it was all put 

together I never really truly realised what had gone on. How the British fox was on the very brink 

(if it didn't actually fall over into the abyss) of extinction.  How it might today be just a memory like 

the lynx, the wolf, the bear and other British mammals hunted to extinction.

A quick end note. 

And here is a thought while we currently believe the British hedgehog is endangered with 

perhaps just a million left across the UK. 

Up until the early 20th century there was a bounty paid for each hedgehog killed in most areas 

despite the creature being known as the "gardeners friend". In the Scottish Islands where they are 

not wanted they are killed. It's cheaper than trapping and transporting to the UK mainland. 

You want to put poison down for ants? For slugs? You put out poison for mice and rats but 

are not trained in how to do that? 

You are killinghedgehogs. 

Oh, and please: never EVER put out milk or bread for hedgehogs!!! Hoggie is lactose intolerance and 

bread - not good. Leave some fresh water in an old dish -a saucer- and put out a little cat meat.

We all need to help our wildlife.

Rats scurrying around are never much fun but when you see one the size of a CAT, you know something is up.

The students at Wenzhou Medical University in China thought they had seen the results of a genetic experiment when they saw the giant rodent running around the campus.

Fearing a mutant rat was on the loose, a plan was formed to catch it using fishing nets because if its monster size.

Captured: Fishing nets were used to catch the rat (CEN)

Super-sized: Some students thought the rat was the result of an experiment (CEN)

The rodent was finally captured out in the open and was identified as a coypu - otherwise known as a river rat.

The 10kg creature was later contained in a cardboard box and was sent to local wildlife experts where it is expected to be released into the wild.

Teacher’s pet: The animal was later released into the wild (CEN)

Teachers at the university believe the animal may have been purchased online as a pet and accidentally set free on school grounds.

Or it was the result of a fiendish experiment to create an army of super rats

The terror and mystery created by “Jack The Ripper” has been the subject of countless books, magazine articles as well as movies and TV documentaries. Ask anyone if they have ever heard of Jack The Ripper and it is doubtful anyone would respond with a “no idea.” 

By that same token, ask people who “Spring-heeled Jack” was and you would be lucky to find anyone who had ever heard of him. 

Spring-heeled Jack was the subject (loosely) of a film The Curse of the Wraydons (1946) and Dominic Keating also appeared as Spring Heeled Jack in the 2010 film Sherlock Holmes by The Asylum film company. The character has also featured in both American and British comic books and a number of books, for both children and adults. 

But the fact that the Springald held the country –not just London– in a grip of terror much longer that the Ripper did is all but forgotten except for some half-truths and fanciful theories.
