I No Longer Have Any Interest In Posting To No One.

On 17th December, Jerry posted this on my behalf:

January 2017

"The decision on the fate of the AOP Blog will be made on 1st January. According to Terry he will up date everyone then.

Folks, we want him to keep this blog going then now is the time to post comments of support.
 Jerry"

So, 12 days later how many comments supporting the continuation of this blog?

ZERO

The fate of the blog? Work it out yourselves. You don't support by buying books just whatever you can grab for free here and will not even comment to keep the blog going....that shows a total lack of interest and, to be honest, its pretty insulting.

My thanks to anyone who has (about 3 people) commented on the blog in the last five years.

The "Mystery Books" Need Another Publisher?

In all seriousness, the prose books consist of just some of the work from the last 40+ years and the reason for self publishing was simple.

Book after book that was being published on UFOs, "sea monsters", strange creatures and other phenomena had become a mish-mash of a few little distorted "facts" and heaps of sensationalism. People were buying these books expecting to read the truth and find out about all the weird stuff going on around them.

They might as well have gone out and purchased a fantasy novel.

Several times, large publishers waved the contract and offered the cheque but the line from them was always the same: "Can you, maybe sex this up a bit? Claim government cover-ups or threats against you if you revealed the truth? That sort of thing?"  These were established and "respectable" publishing houses and they knew I needed the money.  However, despite making it very clear that lying  and adding false claims was something I would not do, I kept getting the "Yes, but no one will know other than us" and my insistence on honesty led one after another to back out of the contract.

It may sell but what would that achieve -apart from getting me money!- in the long run? You cannot set out to lay facts before readers that have been fully referenced and investigated/researched and then add fantasy elements to "make it sexy".

So I self-published. A couple of copies have sold. Looking at the number of views of posts on these books on my Yahoo groups, Face Book, Twitter, CBO, Google+ and so on, we're looking at a quarter million. Three copies of a book sold.

Is fiction published as truth really preferable to fact?

It may well be. A year or so ago I started touting the books to publishers because them not selling were doing me no good.  Presumably no interest since I never got responses.

So I have books.  I need a publisher who can do the whole publisher things and not ask me to add lies or sex the books up.  I can't see it happening but.....

____________________________________________

Better to have no sales as a proper publisher than trying to encourage people, from the 7th October 2016 the books will see a substantial increase in cover price to reflect what they are.  I make no apologies because I've heard from one person after another with the "I am going to buy this one!" etc etc etc and those people never buy.  I need to earn money.  I'm not a charity.

Now I'm operating as a proper businessman.

The Red Paper: Foxes, Coyotes, Jackals, Arctic Foxes and Wolves in the UK

One for those interested in Wildlife -or cryptozoology!

The Red Paper:CANINES vol.1
 Terry Hooper
The Red Paper: Canids
Paperback,
A4
(21 x 30cms)
202 Pages
Photographs, illustrations and maps

By the 1700s the British fox was on the verge of extinction and about to follow the bear and wolf having been hunted for sport for centuries.  The answer was to import thousands of foxes per year for sport. But foxes kept dying out so jackals were tried. Some were caught, some escaped. Even wolves and coyote were released for hunting and "country folk" were very far from "happy" -some even threatening local hunts -one intending to release a wolf for a hunt- with legal and other consequences. The summation of over 40 years research by the noted naturalist and former UK police forces exotic wildlife consultant reveals the damnable lie of "pest control" hunting but also reveals the cruelty the animals were subject to and how private menageries as well as travelling shows. Private menageries, or single exotic "pets" as well as travelling shows helped provide the British and Irish countryside with some incredible events such as the 1905 "vampiric" sheep killer of Badminton, the mystery hounds of Cavan and Coyotes of Epping Forest.

The Girt Dog of Ennerdale is also dealt with in detail -was it a tiger? A Tasmania Thylacine? This book gives the exact facts and details for the first time. Up-dated 2013 edition includes a section on sarcoptic mange in foxes and treatment plus a list of wildlife sanctuaries and rescue centres in the UK.

The terror and mystery created by “Jack The Ripper” has been the subject of countless books, magazine articles as well as movies and TV documentaries. Ask anyone if they have ever heard of Jack The Ripper and it is doubtful anyone would respond with a “no idea.”  By that same token, ask people who “Spring-heeled Jack” was and you would be lucky to find anyone who had ever heard of him.  Spring-heeled Jack was the subject (loosely) of a film The Curse of the Wraydons (1946) and Dominic Keating also appeared as Spring Heeled Jack in the 2010 film Sherlock Holmes by The Asylum film company. The character has also featured in both American and British comic books and a number of books, for both children and adults.  But the fact that the Springald held the country –not just London– in a grip of terror much longer that the Ripper did is all but forgotten except for some half-truths and fanciful theories.  Now be prepared to read the full story of Spring Heeled Jack

Minke Whale Call May Be Mysterious Mariana Trench Noise

Michael Irving
Scientists have picked up a "crazy," complex call from the depths of the Mariana Trench. Although the mysterious sounds haven't been attributed to an exact species just yet, marine researchers believe it's less the call of Cthulu and more a previously-unknown dialect of baleen whale song.
As the deepest known area of our planet's oceans, the Mariana Trench captures the imagination, especially when it produces sounds as eerie as these. That said, some of that other-worldliness is undermined by the name it was given – the "Western Pacific Biotwang" – by its discoverers, scientists from Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center. The calls were picked up by passive acoustic ocean gliders, instruments that can dive down to 1,000 m (3,281 ft) below the surface to record and study ocean sounds.
Made up of five distinct parts, the calls tend to last between 2.5 and 3.5 seconds. Frequency-wise, they're quite the roller coaster ride, with moans dropping as low as 38 Hz before jumping up to 8,000 Hz for a high-pitched finish the researchers describe as "metallic." That wide a range makes it hard for researchers to notice the calls, since studies often focus on narrow frequency bands.
"It's very distinct, with all these crazy parts," says Sharon Nieukirk, lead author of the study. "The low-frequency moaning part is typical of baleen whales, and it's that kind of twangy sound that makes it really unique. We don't find many new baleen whale calls."
Minke whales are the most likely culprits, according to the team. The closest match for the strangeness of the Western Pacific Biotwang are the calls emitted by dwarf minke whales around the Great Barrier Reef, northeast of Australia – sounds that scientists have dubbed "Star Wars" calls, since they apparently sound like blasters and lightsabers. And because minke whales have a wide variety of calls depending on their region, it stands to reason that the Western Pacific Biotwang is simply an as-yet-unheard dialect.
"We don't really know that much about minke whale distribution at low latitudes," says Nieukirk. "The species is the smallest of the baleen whales, doesn't spend much time at the surface, has an inconspicuous blow, and often lives in areas where high seas make sighting difficult. But they call frequently, making them good candidates for acoustic studies."
But in the case of the Western Pacific Biotwang, this frequent calling does raise further questions. Baleen whales tend to call more regularly in winter, during mating season, but this new sound wasn't limited to that time of year.
"If it's a mating call, why are we getting it year round? That's a mystery," says Nieukirk. "We need to determine how often the call occurs in summer versus winter, and how widely this call is really distributed."
Whether it is minke whales or not, confirming what's making all this racket is a priority for the researchers, and the team hopes that the sounds might turn up in existing recordings, where the wide frequency band may have led them to be previously missed.
"Now that we've published these data, we hope researchers can identify this call in past and future data, and ultimately we should be able to pin down the source of the sound," says Nieukirk. "More data are needed, including genetic, acoustic and visual identification of the source, to confirm the species and gain insight into how this sound is being used. Our hope is to mount an expedition to go out and do acoustic localization, find the animals, get biopsy samples and find out exactly what's making the sound. It really is an amazing, weird sound, and good science will explain it."
The research was published in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.

There Are Books....

Seriously, the past few years there have been posts based on chapters in the books -cases and info (checked into)- that you will find nowhere else.  No faking or lies like most books these days.

If you are really -really- intertested in everything from UFOs, sasquatch, lake and sea monsters, ghosts and more just scroll down the page -the books are there.

To Make This Clear....

This has to be my final posting on the AOP blog for..I have no idea how long. How long I have the internet or even a place to live is vague at best.  Not much longer.  With 114,363 views I had thought the blog was being viewed by people with a genuine curiousity for the strange and weird.  So some are bound to buy my books with over 40 years of research in, right?

Wrong.

While the frauds and fakers sell their books to gullible people it seems books looking at phenomena truthfully do not sell at all. I've offered glimpse after glimpse into what can be found in my books -that content on this blog is being removed.

I've been honest and stated  life can't go on without money, vulgar as that might seem.  Now it has hit. No more posts after today and until I can find some way of earning decent money that is how it has to be.

If you are seriously interested in phenomena of all types then, [lease, consider one of the books listed below.

I've had no sales via this site to date, and certainly never any feedback from readers, so I guess I'll be gone a very long time.

Sadly.....

The life of a writer and book publisher isn't great.  While fakers, hoaxers and sensationalists sell books in the thousands the original, factual books featuring cases and information you won't find anywhere else don't sell a copy.

I had hoped that a blog with the numbers of visitors this one gets -I assumed everyone looking in WAS interested in these things- might at least result in some book sales. But for the last year there have been none.

This means No Sales =No Money=Bills cannot be paid and food...well.

Without the basics to keep going running a blog and being on the internet can't be justified. At the moment I am guessing this blog will see no more posts from mid to late November.  Sad but if you can't earn a living you can't spend.

To the two people who did buy copies of my book THANK YOU but it just was not enough.

This is the official "Goodbye".

"Reflective Increase In Cost" Is What Business Calls it.

For some 6 years now I have kept the cost of these books so low that I really only make pennies out of any sales.  Unbelievably, the Red Paper has sold 0 copies since published. Some Things and Some More Things have sold one copy a piece. And Pursuing The Strange And Weird -A Naturalist's Viewpoint and the Spring-heeled Jack book have not sold a single copy.

So, considering this involves decades of research and investigation that you will NOT find anywhere else and the books are hefty when it comes to pages, a decision has been made.

You might be surprised. Giant snakes. Amazons. The Giant serpent of Carthage. The Girt Dog of Ennerdale -another big cult 'creature' amongst paranormal and cryptozoological circles. The Beast of Gevaudan -what was it and were there really descendents of the creature in the 19th century -one of which was actually brought to London?   Believe it or not more than one incident of historical crocodiles cases in the UK.  In fact, far more than even the Author had thought . And, after more than a century of claims by 'researchers' that it no longer exists: The Silent City of Alaska and the near legendary 'lost' photograph taken of it.

The Truth About Spring-Heeled Jack
Terry Hooper-Scharf
Paperback, 53 Pages  Dimensions (centimetres) 20.98 wide x 29.69 tall  (A4)fully illustrated and referencedPrice: £7.00Ships in 3–5 business days http://www.lulu.com/shop/terry-hooper-scharf/the-truth-about-spring-heeled-jack/paperback/product-21259526.html
