Do Aliens Really Want To Hear From Us??

Hmm. Over twenty years ago I wrote an article title: "If You Invite People To The Party Don't Be Surprised If They Show Up!"   If they have not heard our broadcasts yet -or seen the TV signals- then maybe they are not interested.  We don't come across as very nice in broadcasts.

Anyway, enough of me...
*****************************************************************************

One way to convince advanced aliens that we are an intelligent species might be to teach them the rules of cricket, according to a scientist leading plans to seek out ET.

Of course, if his critics are right, there is a chance that who or whatever picks up the signals will want to take us on - or even invade Lords.

Members of Seti (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) are preparing for the next step in their attempts to make contact with aliens by actively calling out to the cosmos, instead of just listening.
Other experts, notably renowned British physicist Professor Stephen Hawking, have warned that such a move risks inviting disaster.

What is known as Active Seti will be under serious discussion this week at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in San Jose, California.

Seti spokesman Dr Seth Shostak outlined methods being explored of conducting Active Seti within the next two years, including the possibility of nurturing an alien interest in cricket and rock music.

The idea would be to flood the ETs with lively content from the internet, rather than bore them with mathematical concepts or chemical equations.

Dr Shostak, director of the Centre for Seti Research in Mountain View, California, said: "I think you'd want to send lots of information. I recommend that we send the entire internet, the Google servers.

"Send it all. If they look up cricket, there are descriptions, pictures, diagrams showing a pitch, footage.. They'll cross-correlate all this and put it together and if they are clever at all, they will figure out something about cricket.

"Honestly, what do they want to hear from us? Do they want to hear what the structure of the hydrogen atom is? No, they know that. They want to know about our rock 'n roll."

Seti dates back to 1960 when a young astronomer called Frank Drake conducted the first microwave radio search for intelligent signals from other solar systems.

Since then about 100 searches have been made for radio or laser-transmitted messages from the stars, none of which have confirmed the existence of an extraterrestrial civilisation.

A few isolated attempts have also been made to contact ETs directly by broadcasting signals. But now a number of scientists, including Dr Shostak, believe what is needed is a full scale co-ordinated Active Seti operation.

Active Seti would involve using a handful of powerful radio telescopes to beam repeated "hello" signals at nearby stars within a radius of about 20 light years.

Likely candidates include Kapteyn (13 light years), Kepler 298 (11.9 light years) and the "red dwarf" star Gliese 832 (16.1 light years), all of which are believed to have rocky Earth-like planets orbiting in the "habitable" zone where conditions may be suitable for life.

With signals travelling at the speed of light, a reply might not come for decades.

Prof Hawking has warned against inviting an unwelcome visit from aliens, pointing out: "The outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans."

A number of other experts agree, including scientist, author and futurist Dr David Brin, who is taking part in the AAAS symposium.

He said: "If you bring human history into the discussion, there is a cautionary tale. Name one example of a meeting between an advanced civilisation and a less technically advanced one that did not end in tears.
"Just because the probability of a negative outcome is very low that does not mean it is zero. The existence of low probability outcomes that might be devastatingly negative is worth pondering."

Dr Shostak's counter-argument is that any aliens capable of interstellar travel would be at least several centuries more advanced than us. They would almost certainly have already spotted the human race through leaking early TV transmissions and radar signals, so there is no point hiding the Earth from them now.

"We have already yelled 'yoo hoo'," said Dr Shostak. "What we want to do is follow up with something with a little more substance."

It may be that the ETs have been waiting for Earth to call them under the rules of contact between galactic civilisations, he added. If we avoid Active Seti, we could lose out.

"Maybe the galactic value system says it should be the civilisation that has the most to gain that should make contact," said Dr Shostak. "The biggest downside of not doing Active Seti is we may forego an opportunity for contact.

"We shouldn't hope for alien salvation, but we should hope for an expansion of our perspective. It's sometimes easier to imagine bad outcomes from actions than the possibility of bad outcomes from inaction.

"The broader long-term implication is that our decision about whether we want to transmit or not helps define who we are as a species. To date we have been a species that seeks to know, that dares to explore, and exploration involves risk.

"We could define ourselves as a species that does everything we can to protect ourselves and to isolate ourselves from the rest of the universe, but that's a very different idea of humankind than the one I'm familiar with."

Fellow Seti scientist Dr Douglas Vakoch said: "We've had certain assumptions about other civilisations being very long lived and technically advanced and sending us intentional signals for our benefit. I hope that's all true, but I don't think we should count on it.

"Active Seti looks at other scenarios. Maybe there are other civilisations out there that are at a comparable technological level to us, a twin Earth, with the dame degree of tech, and they are listening. They wouldn't know about us in the same way we wouldn't know about them."

The latest data collected by Nasa and other space agencies suggests there could be as many as 40 billion potentially habitable planets in our galaxy, the Milky Way.

Even though alien civilisations would be a lot rarer, experts have concluded there might be around 3,000.
But the chances of meeting any of them are thought to be extremely low given the distances involved.
Professor Michael Garrett, head of the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy, has said galactic civilisations would on average be separated by at least 1,000 light years.

Everyone Needs To Read These Books. Step Into MY World For A Bit!

As a kind of "thank you" to someone in the United States I sent a copy of Some Things Strange & Sinister, Some MORE Things Strange & Sinister and Pursing The Strange & Weird -A Naturalist's Viewpoint.

Some More Things Strange & Sinister

Now this particular person is not your average reader of this type of book.  And he's smart.  So I expected a few polite "Yeah. Very uh, 'good' "comments.  Instead I got this:

"The books arrived yesterday.  You have done a remarkable piece of work - such an enormous number of case-works.  The books are thick with strange stories.  These books should be on books shelves everywhere.  They are very elegant looking.  I started reading one last night and had t give it up because it was past my bedtime.  I will continue with that one tonight."

I blush.

Pursuing The Strange & Weird:A Naturalists Viewpoint

So, those who have read these books love them.  high praise from Finland, United States and UK.  But who buys them?

Lots of comments about the catchy cover designs and asking who did the designing?  ME.  BTCG is a one man operation.

And no publisher or agent seems interested.

Seems that if people see and read my books they really like them -prose or the comic albums. I just need buyers!

I've lost track where I was going with this!

Mystery Seal Deaths

Following on from the posting last year of mysterious Seal deaths reported by the Cornish Wildlife Trust, I have heard back from them and they say no solution can be found as yet.  I decided to contact the Irish Seal Sanctuary and they have furnished me with a report on seal deaths as well as photographs.

Can I please ask that any of you on the cast or estuaries who find dead seals PLEASE report them to the local authority as soon as possible.

I'll update as soon as I can.

Thank You

Hey, Zak Bagans Has A New Book Out -Wanna buy some snake-oil, too?

Interesting as I understand he also has a new brand of snake-oil due out. The ego has grown and I just wonder how long before "Zak Bagans Ghost Adventures" will appear?

I used to really rate and credit GA but it seems to have become more a Bagans ego trip and snake-oil act.  A few lights flashing on and off (as proven with the Ghost Hunters TV show trick) is not "Proof of direct communication with the dead".  It is proof that you can keep boosting your viewing figures by acting like some TV evangelist.

Just watch repeats of GA series 1-8.   And wait til you can buy this book cheap somewhere.  I no longer trust a word the man says.  And I find that a shame.

"Ghost Adventures" host Zak Bagans recently announced the release of his new book "I Am Haunted" on his Twitter page yesterday. "I Am Haunted" is his second book which is due out next week.

"I Am Haunted" follows paranormal adventurer Zak Bagans as he travels the world investigating strange mysteries. Follow Bagans on his journey as he joins a vampire clan in Paris, goes on a quest to find the real Dracula in Romania, to buying a haunted house in Indiana occupied by hundreds of demons.

"Sometimes it's the encounters with people that affect me the most, from crackheads in Reno, to gangbangers in St. Louis, and crazed fans in West Virginia. During my travels I've learned more about this world and the one that awaits all of us far more than anyone should. I've been given a spiritual key that unlocks unknown doorways and what I experience when I open them seems to be letting me know that I shouldn't." Bagans revealed in his second book.

Bagans' first book "Dark World" was a New York Times Best Seller. Just a week after its release date, it reached #18 on the list. "I am Haunted" is scheduled to be released on Tuesday.

Back in November, Bagans stopped the production the documentary film that will feature his Indiana demon house. According to a post on his Twitter page, Bagans said the house became unsafe for his crew and he had to call a priest to come exorcise the house.

The small house on Carolina Street, in Gary, Indiana has over 800 pages of official police reports of odd occurrences that have been said to have happened there. A police captain with the Gary Police Department says he believes that the home is haunted. According to the police captain and various psychics, the house is infested with hundreds of ghosts and demons.

In a recent photo of the house, a strange figure can be seen peering out of one of the porch windows of the home. City officials claim that there were no inhabitants living in the home when the picture was taken.

One family that lived in the home fled due to the supernatural events. The Ammons, who lived in the home claimed to have experienced their children levitating, strange footsteps, odd behavior from animals and insects. A family case manager and a family nurse even witnessed one of the children walking backward up a wall.

"This may well be one of the most well-documented cases of demonic possession ever," Bagans said to Robin Leach in an interview about the house.

Psychics came and informed the Ammons that the house was infested with over 200 ghosts and demons. According to the seers, the demons were attempting to possess the family's children. The home has been labeled "a portal to Hell."

"If it's true that this home is a portal to Hell, then I want to go there and see what happens," Bagans said in an interview with TMZ.

Bagans convinced another family that lived in the house in the 80s to come back to the home to appear in his new documentary. As soon as filming commenced, demonic activity started to stir up within the house. The former home owner claimed that she was kicked and her daughter began speaking in tongues and threatened to attack the crew. Bagans took the possessed girl to a Catholic priest for an exorcism to rid the evil spirits.

Bagans purchased the house last January and paid only $35,000 for the home. He started production for "The Demon House" back in April but had to temporarily shut down production in the summer due to unsafe conditions. According to Bagans, production the documentary resumed in December. The film is scheduled to be released in the fall.

Bagans' second book "I Am Haunted" is currently available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble for pre-order. The book is due out Tuesday, February 10, 2015.

Riddle House Paranormal Investigation with WIRK

I was sent this video link by someone -via You Tube which is odd since I have NOTHING on YT that is paranormal orientated at all.   I did watch the video -in the end three times and the sound up loud.  I cannot hear the EVPs (Electronic Voice Phenomena)  just static.

I am also finding it hard to accept these stick figures representing the presence of a ghost.  I have seen it on Ghost Adventures -and the other gear- BUT until I have seen a recognised, qualified physicist or engineer unconnected with paranormal groups and who has tested the gear state that it is all legit and that the claimed results are true....no.  I will not accept them.

Remember "Orbs" and "Rods" -all the result of digital cameras with which people were unfamiliar -I've got great shots of a room crowded with orbs!  This was hailed as "digital technology finally providing photographic proof of ghosts"

No. It just showed how GOOD digital cameras were and just how much detail they picked up.  If we could get the equipment assessed THEN that might just say that these are tools worth having in investigations.

The same applies to EVPs -some I have heard are VERY similar to investigators voices (I am NOT referring to this video).  Sounds and recordings can be easily analysed by experts these days -voice comparison recording of the investigator(s) -if they are honest then why refuse?- can be used to check for fakery.  It might even be possible to get data back that can be turned into something useful for future investigations by adjusting equipment.

Paranormal investigators claim they are looking for scientific and irrefutable evidence of whatever 'ghosts' might be -yet they are not forwarding the material the have for scientific study/analysis.

Why not?

All very interesting but just another ghost-hunter documentary.  But I will check in on future videoes. You never know!
