So, the Trappist-1 System IS Habitable And We KNOW What The Planets Look Like?

So let's talk some sense because it seems that after NASA gave its ground-breaking news last night/morning people were fantasizing.

NASA discovered seven (7) planets orbiting Trappist-1.  Three (3) were in what we would call the Habitable Zone of the planetary system.  NASA have checked the orbits and gauged sizes based on calculations except for the largest one.  SETI (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) have checked but detected no signals from the system.

That is it.  Trappist-1 is 40 light years away so not even the nearest sun outside of our system which you might think they would concentrate on but let's not downplay this: this is a full planetary system and a major discovery.

So, sorry, fantasy conspiracy theorists it was NOT the announcement of the arrival of 'Nibiru'!

Of course, the "Disclosure" fans jumped on to this. "Intelligent life is just around the corner!" and "habitable planets found!" they scream.  But, surely, hasn't their "Disclosure" project revealed everything about intelligent life visiting this planet?  And, hey, what kind of lousy NASA cover-up was this?

Although the NASA folk explained it was obvious from questions after (particularly the Press) that not everyone understood.  In a way NASA, itself, has to accept some blame for this.

Facts:

(1)  There are seven planets.
(2)  We know the estimated sizes of six of them so far.
(3)  We know three are in the Habitable Zone
(4)  We know the system is 40 light years away and not the closest just has the most planets so far             found.
(5) SETI have not detected any signals from the system.

It is unknown whether any of these three planets can allow any life to exist and survive. It will take years before deep space observations will tell us whether there is oxygen and water or even what the planets are made of.

If there were intelligent life (speculation) it might be that they use completely unknown forms of inter-communication or might be able to prevent detection of its technology from beyond its system. Maybe they do not want to encourage outside contact?

Remember how approx 95% of native peoples in the Amazon were wiped out by diseases spread by the Spanish and Portuguese -it is why there is minimal contact with "hidden" tribes these days because Western diseases could wipe them out -they have no defences against these diseases. Some notable scientists have said that we (Earth) should not advertise our presence to other life beyond the planet which might be hostile or even see Earth and its life, Human and animal, as one big food selection.  Which is a pretty dumb thing to say since our first radio signals (1920s on -some to deliberately attract intelligent life) are now light years out and I think nuclear tests and all the technology we are using must be akin to a huge interplanetary neon sign!  In other words: too late.

I emphasise again that this was big news because those involved in finding exo-planets or even supporting those doing this work, have been seen as time wasters -as emphasised ("in your face!") at the press conference.  You have to remember that the first scientific detection of an exoplanet was as far back as 1988, but the first confirmed detection was in 1992.  From 1992 up to the 22nd February 2017, there have been 3,583 exoplanets in 2,688 planetary systems confirmed and some 603 multiple planetary systems confirmed. This is the first time a full planetary system of this size has been found, but I'm guessing it will not be the last.

People with no idea jump to conclusions and "Habitable Zone" becomes "has life or very likely has life".  It does not. The planets are merely in the right place.

As before, NASA has had artists create these wonderful images of what the planets look like from space as well as from the surface. People latch on to that.  These images are pure fantasy. We do NOT know what the planets are made of or if they have atmospheres let alone whether they have seas and ice. People seeing these NASA images assume that this is what NASA has seen.  That bloody Trappist 1e tourist poster is pure and utter fantasy.

NASA has to take 100% responsibility for all the misperceptions based on these images because we are, sadly, many, many decades (if that) from having equipment that could get fuzzy images of the Trappist-1 system.

It is an important discovery but take a deep breath and check out the reality.

Habitable Planets Found, NASA Announces Major Space Discovery | TIME

de occultis non judicat ecclesia. Or: “The Church has not decided about ghosts and the ghostly”

Intro: Since this was first written and published in Some Things Strange & Sinister my views and theories regarding so-called "ghosts" have changed.  However, that does not affect the material/incidents within the article.

All "Orb" photographs are (c)2017 Terry Hooper-Scharf -see note at end of posting.
         **********************************************
And for those who don’t understand Latin, the title is from a pronouncement stating “The Church has not decided about ghosts and the ghostly”.  After all this time you would think they might have.  Surely, it is fundamental to Christian belief?

Not being a clergyman I’ll remain puzzled.

I am one of those sad, depressing people who believe you are born, live and then die.  Finito.  Otherwise, why have none of  those who might want to, in fact who promised to, made a re-appearance after death?  People like Charles Fort [founder, against his wishes, of Forteanism], Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Harold T. Wilkins, Arthur Constance or my late colleague Franklyn A. Davin-Wilson who sat down weeks before his untimely death and said to me: ”Terry, after I’m dead, don’t s*** your pants if I pop up in front of you!”

Every New Years Day at Midnight I toast Franklyn but nothing and if some obstinate old sod was going to return from the dead it would be him!

The history of the Church is full of accounts of ghosts of all types and there are numerous cases of  poltergeists (one of the most famous British cases, the Lamb Inn will be detailed in a later chapter).  Whereas the Church in general with all its theologians have taken centuries but left it up to individuals to make their minds up,the Catholic Church is another matter.

Though with all the Press and Media sensationalism over recent years the Catholic Church tends to be less public it takes a fair stance.  As one of the more conservative religions, there is nothing in its teachings or practices that says ghosts can or cannot exist.  In fact,by the very records of Catholicism it seems clear there is every reason to suppose that ghosts do exist.  There is nothing stating that followers of the faith cannot or must not encounter or report ghosts.

I often feel quite disgusted when I see a priest of any religion on TV,Radio or in printed interviews declaring that “there are no such things as ghosts”.  That is tantamount to stating that there is no belief in Heaven or Hell in their religion…or God.  In which case, there is the admission that the Church has been ripping off its members for centuries.

Regarding Ghosts, Poltergeists and the Catholic Church, I would highly recommend Shane Leslie’s Ghost Book [1] –if you can find a copy.  It is really fascinating reading.

My personal experience on so called “ghostly matters” are not very spectacular.  Back in 1966/1967,I was living in Dalborn,Germany.  One overcast, slightly drizzly but very oppressive thundery day, along with two of my cousins,I headed for a stream that had become flooded –we had much fun crossing the stream using the trunk of an old tree placed there by someone months before.  We watched as soldiers in trucks drove by and waved but the horrible, smokey brown low cloud made little difference –we were having fun!

Not far from the stream, in easy view, was an upward sloping path near to a reputedly haunted mill [though we never knew that at the time].  The entire length of the path was covered in an arch of tree branches with the far end allowing in light.  At one point, all three of us turned to look up this path. At the very end of  the path stood a tall, misty grey figure devoid [seemingly] of any facial or clothing features.  The figure moved forward.

Three kids ran like Hell!

Of course, in the prevailing weather conditions it is possible any normal person might have seemed grey and featureless.  That would explain it away to my satisfaction.  But why did all three of us turn at the same time and run without speaking to each other?

In England, in my grandparents St Werburgh’s home, we had a typical terraced house situation for the mid-1960s.  The old tin bath has on a hook outside the back door for bath nights and the toilet was outside the house.  The row of houses looked out onto Mina Road Park and there was a stream, an off-shoot of the River Frome which ran under houses.  On more than one occasion, while seated in “the throne room” I heard voices quite distinctly, though what exactly was being said I couldn’t tell you.  I was not the only person to hear these voices –my mother dreaded having to use the outside toilet but just said, in a thick German accent “it’s spooky”.

In a small back bedroom over-looking the garden, privy and park, there was definitely something “odd”.  The room had been given over to my mother and father on returning from Germany.  Within the week my mother would not even venture into the room alone and rooms were swapped around.  It is odd but, thinking about it years later, I recall my grand mother never ventured into the room by herself either and never used it for a bedroom.  Two later lodgers did complain about “something wrong” with the room.

And so,the two boys were moved into the room.  I was an insomniac even at that young age and on many occasions felt an unknown presence –I did have a waking dream once when I saw the silhouette of a bent over witch complete with pointed hat and threw a shoe at “her”.
On another occasion we were all downstairs and heard very loud banging from upstairs and in the room in question.  My parents and grandparents rushed up to find my older brother quite incoherent on the floor  stating something had thrown him against the wall.  I was ushered downstairs so I could not hear what else was said.  That ended our time in that room.

Only years later, after we had moved out was I told that the little dark room had always had an odd atmosphere.  My mother seemed quite at ease with telling me these things though never in front of my older brother.

Apart from mysterious deposits on cars parked at Greenway Boys School [see Introduction], my time in Southmead was quiet.  Nothing odd.

Around 1975, we were temporarily living in a caravan park on the outskirts of Ramsgate, Kent, not 2 kilometres from the sea.  Here things became interesting again.  My father got a temporary job at the Hovertel, then not too far from the Ramsgate Hoverport.  Employed there as a bouncer was a man I’ll call “Ted”.  Ted was around 1.9m [6’ 6”] tall, had a thick, bushy moustache and a very notable broken nose.  I wasn’t surprised to learn that this brick-wall of a man had been a paratrooper [possibly a mercenary at one point] and later a policeman.  Not the type of man you wanted to annoy.

While we were all seated around the bar area one evening, Ted was eating his dish of snails in garlic butter when the manager noted that some crates needed bringing up from the cellars below.  Ted coughed and replied “You know what you can do!”  I pointed out that a big strong lad like him shouldn’t worry about lifting a few boxes and he came back with “I have no concerns about boxes –it’s what’s down there!”

We were told how the cellars were linked to old smugglers caves, not unusual around the English coast.  Apparently, the reason Ted and the manager were the only permanent employees (which I always thought was odd) was that the cellars were said to be haunted.  Both men had been in the cellars one night when the temperature dropped suddenly and both men shivered violently.  Nothing unusual in that they thought but then the electric lights started dimming.  Ted was not in the least bit concerned – until both heard deep breathing and voices from out of thin air.  Records were broken getting up the steps.

I asked if I could go down the cellars myself but Ted took my arm and whispered in a very deliberate manner: ”You do not want to go down there alone!”.  My father laughed it off (but not to Ted’s face) and lasted a week as a cellarman but would not go back there after something happened in the cellars he would not discus

All a bit of an anti-climax for me.  Then, one night, during full Moon when the whole area where we were staying was as visible as in daylight, I saw a shadow and looked upward to see a huge bird gliding silently above me at about 6 metres –and it was a big bird.  Today, considering other “big bird” sightings in the UK at the time, I feel sure this must have been a European Eagle Owl (now breeding in the UK), but at the time it made me jump!

When we returned to Bristol we moved into a house in the Knowle area.  Things did tend to go missing but later turned up exactly where you’d looked.

Occasionally, things “fell” from the wall unit.  I say “fell” though I saw an ornament slide three inches off the shelf before falling straight to the floor.  As there were quite a few of us, I slept on a sofa downstairs watching what TV there was until close down, insomnia still being a problem.  I was lying back looking at the open window when I quite distinctly saw a dark figure move from one doorway, leading upstairs toward the kitchen.  “I didn’t even see you come in” I said,  thinking it was a family member.  But the figure had vanished.

My mother’s attitude was  that there might be a ghost in the house but, as she pointed out, dead people can’t hurt you.

The funniest incident happened one Christmas.  The living room was decorated out and I had just watched a TV programme about ghosts and the devil with a sister and my younger brother.  “Yeah, right.” I said loudly, ”if there’s a devil let him pop one of the red balloons!”  A red balloon then popped!  I just wished the scene had been preserved by video camera.

Without doubt the only place I have felt really frightened in was a house my youngest sister and her partner had moved to in Bath.  The top floor belonged to someone else but the lower two floors was theirs –the bathroom on the lowest level.  The place was spacious and I was really impressed. It was a lovely Summer day and anything odd was far from my mind.

At one point I had to answer the “call of nature” and took the steps down to the lower area.  A few feet from the bathroom I said “come on give me a clue –I’m lost!,” I had the strongest feeling that someone was behind me –my sister or her partner.  I turned when there was no reply.  No one was there.  I continued, calling myself a few unprintable names for talking to myself.

However, without warning, and despite every attempt I made to fight it, I had the overwhelming feeling that I was not alone and my heart started pounding.  Anyone who has ever played “tag” in the dark or blind-folded will know the sensation that someone is close to you.  This was over-powering!

I stood for several seconds, taking deep breaths and trying to slow my heart beat, at which I succeeded.  I even moved my hand around to see if I could feel a “cold spot” but nothing.  So, I decided that my need for the toilet facilities was far more important.  However, as I got to the bathroom  door I was overcome by an almost unbearable feeling of fear –so intense, in fact, that I started retreating upstairs before deciding I was being an idiot.

Again, I moved down the stairs and felt a “presence”.  Again I retreated upstairs.

I said nothing and on my next visit decided that I was not going to be put off from going downstairs by irrational fear.  The same sense of fear was there but in  the length of corridor between the bathroom and the back garden door the sensation was stronger.  I stood for a few minutes before slowly returning upstairs.

The only intimation I had that something might be odd was when my sister decided to visit the bathroom and her partner said out loud: ”Oh, she’s going to be brave and go down there alone!”   I let that go.  On the next visit we walked down the stairs to get to the back garden and my sister rushed past the bathroom saying that she was sure it was haunted.  After making a joke I asked why?

It seems that an old woman who lived in the house before had drowned herself in the bath.  When I asked at what point she had been told of the death and when she had first felt the sensation the answer was a quick “months after we moved in and
a long time after sensing it”.

I did check and, yes,an old woman had drowned in the house and the house had not been easy for people to live in –people had moved in and out.  Whatever the sensation was though, it was not proof of ghosts just a very interesting experience.

What I do know is that both my mother and I got “butterflies” in the stomach whenever we drove over a certain point in a road we frequently used.  It was only when I jokingly said “hang on to your stomachs” one day that I discovered she also got the sensation.  A friend in the local water board checked for me and learnt that there was an old underground stream at the point in question.

Suicides and breakdowns often increase prior to thunder storms due to changes in the electromagnetic field.  As a child in Germany, and later on in life, everyone knew that if I uncharacteristically fell asleep during the day a storm was on its way.  It was infallible.  As I’ve gotten older I tend not to fall to sleep but get plenty of warning of even non forcasted storms.

Even the objects moving might have a natural explanation and there were underground streams in the old St Werburgh’s house.

So,like the Church,I’m still not decided…but I’d dearly love to see a genuine ghost!

Orb photographs. The phenomena of "Rods" and "Orbs" only exploded onto the scene with the advent of digital cameras and it was shocking to see some allegedly 'expert' people who earned their livings with cameras announce that they could offer no explanation for "orb" photographs.

Digital cameras are nothing like the old film cameras.  Digital cameras pick up far more information per image and record it faster.  "Rods" are nothing more than insects.  If you think "rods" are some form of unknown paranormal life then you are fooling yourself -though there are people still making money out of exploiting this.

"Orbs" are not manifestations of spirit energy. Having viewed so much footage of orbs shown as evidence by TV shows it is clear that dust and even insects, spiders web and so on are the main culprits.

My photographs are perfect examples. Five minutes before I had changed the cat litter tray and there was no visible dust from the Fuller's Earth. With lights off I waited and then took photographs using the camera flash. Orbs.  So many I was a little surprised but you can clearly see that these are dust particles.

If you check out these enlargements you can clearly see where the camera flash caught them and the dust molecules making them up.

Now, here is the thing: "orbs" do exist.  I have a note made after talking to an artist I knew.  His mother had gone downstairs one night and seen a couple of "coloured orbs" come out of the floor. Another friend reported how his then girlfriend screamed out one evening from the top of the stairs -and he saw the then moving, fading orbs of light that had, apparently, appeared out of thin air.

Historically there are a good few, some more dramatic, such cases that are little known about. I believe that this phenomenon is far more common than we might think.  It has nothing to do with ghosts but the explanation -fully referenced and backed up by examples- will have to wait until I, one day, complete my re-writing of Grey Book: The Report On Unidentified Flying Objects. And note that what was seen in the two incidents referred to were not explainable as dust particles, insercts or by other mundane means.

Never EVER Trust An Academic and the link to the Sanderson audio report on Flatwoods.

I forgot to give the link to Ivan T. Sanderson's audio report on his visit to Flatwoods not long after the entity was seen so:

http://terryhooper.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/the-flatwoods-monster-case-ivan.html

Also, a Professor from a university recently referred to my "incredible knowledge" on exotic fauna in the UK and asked whether I would consider forwarding data to him and assisting in his project?

Firstly, flattering me will NOT work as I do not have an ego.

Secondly, I sent him a link to a 2015 posting that explains my attitude on this.  No reply since -wonder why?  Never trust an academic.

Why Researchers Need To Think Twice Before Cooperating With Universities

Over the years I have supplied information and advised agricultural departments and universities as well as National Farmers Union and other bodies on "non Native fauna" -specifically felids and canids (lynx, puma, etc).

I supplied a university in the South West of England with a great deal of information on local foxes as well as material I had unearthed after decades of research that they told me they had never heard of before.  All fully referenced.  Imagine how I felt when that university used the material as its own without crediting me -and I have the correspondence.

I worked with other "academics" and one after another stole or used material without crediting me.

So, when a professor at a South Wales university set up an exotic cat project I was dubious.  But I was assured that academics "must" credit sources and that I had been treated very badly by previous associates.  I decided that I could trust this person -I had regular phone conversations with her and exchanged data.  Then it came to needing data and I lent books and documents as well as maps -all handed over and a promise that they would be returned.

Everything went well.  My name is there on papers so I thought there could be no problems -I even defended the professor when her reputation was attacked online.

Then.....nothing.  My phone messages were never returned, though I know she was present when someone took my first message.  Letters and emails -unanswered.  This meant that I was put in a very bad position as suddenly I was being told that the university, Swansea, had no such project and had never heard of me and that I should not state that I worked with the said university.

I could -badly- put up with the betrayal of trust and all the hard work I had put into assisting the project because I realised that I had been foolish in trusting an academic again.  What really hurt is that all of my original notes, maps that were handed over were gone.  I had no copies.  And, even worse, some rare and near impossible to find books (some will set you back £70 a copy now) were never returned.

So, when I was recently contacted by a mammalogist who wanted me to assist in a fox project I made it clear that I would not -and I explained why not.

It did take a very long time to get over the betrayal and, since I incorporated findings made jointly with the Exotic Cat Project into my Red Paper: Felids that project had to be scrapped.  It will never appear because a lot of the Ms notes were with the research assistant.

So, if -if- you ever get contacted to assist or work with a university make sure EVERYTHING is agreed in writing.  Academics are not to be trusted.

This "Little known case" Is A Ufology "Classic" -anyone read any more is it all "I saw it on TV"?

Some people might wonder why I posted a video regarding the 1964, Cisco Grove alien encounter from the United States?

What made me actually curse out loud in almost (almost) disbelief was the statement that this was "a little known case".  From a MUFON investigator and State Director. This shows why so called UFO 'research' is in such a mess.  Where do these people get their knowledge of UFOs from -UFO Hunters and other equally dubious TV shows?

For persons high up in a UFO investigation organization to state that Cisco Grove and the Donald Shrum encounter are "little known" is akin the the Curator of a national museum stating: "Salvador Dali is a little known painter".

It shows a great lack of knowledge on the subject which, up until the early 1990s would have been laughed at.

Just how well documented and reported on is this "little known case"?

The Hynek UFO Report  (1977, pp 210-212) J. Allen Hynek (heard of him?)
Strange Effects From UFOs ( 1969, p. 17))  NICAP
Flying Saucer Occupants,  (1967, pp 137-141)  James and Coral Lorenzen
The Humanoids (1969, pp. 164-174 -by Coral Lorenzen) Ed. Charles Bowen

In fact, excluding magazine articles, I can find another 15 sources without really trying including books by Brad Steiger and Joan Whritenour...the point is that this was always seen as a "Classic encounter case".

Now the investigators involved Noe Torres & Ruben Uriarte, have written a book "Aliens in the Forest: The Cisco Grove UFO Encounter,"  and when I get the time and money I'll buy a copy -read the reviews on Amazon and do not take this as my recommendation as I have not read it yet.

Has anyone heard of Antonio Villas Boas?  And despite current "UFO history rebooting" there were no "Greys" involved.

Aliens in the Forest Reveals Amazing 1964 UFO Encounter

Am I A Skeptic? Am I A Debunker? What DO I BELIEVE? This could be a long post

I've had to address this before but people keep asking how I can impartially look at cases? I must be either Pros or Contras  something like UFOs, Sasquatch or other phenomena?
No.

Let's explain what walking the pather of "Counter actuality" involves.

Put it this way: I have seen 'UFOs' at very close quarters and on one occasion I was even asking myself "Where are the (RAF) interceptors -this is over a city!" No panic.  No running away. Where I could I tried to get closer and if I could not then I just observed and took notes.

After a major UFO flap of 1977-1978 I went on holiday to Germany. Away from all the hassle of following up reports and even, on two occasions, being in a speeding car chasing a UFO -on the final occasion I (and the driver) almost met our ends!  So there I was on a lovely Summer's evening in Germany and I sat back and took a deep breath and glanced out of the window. About a kilometre away, over forestry, a 1st magnitude, star-like object rose in three very clear and distinct arched 'steps' -not a star or planet rising.  Not a flare (Dalborn is situated near a garrison town).  I watched and made notes in the back of the leaflet that came with my new telescope.  I then uttered some rude words -it was forgotten.  Well, next day I did walk the area in question. Sucker.

Were these 'UFOs' extra-terrestrial space craft? No. By the time I had completed the AOP Bureau's Project Grey Book Report in 1981 I had gone over each sighting and the circumstances and conditions -everything I had observed.

I have interviewed people who have seen low flying, seemingly constructed objects. Some I thought -knew- were very likely misidentifying something else.  But what of the others? It was never a case of sit down, take out questionnaire, fill in questionnaire and that was it.  In fact, maybe the first 30 minutes involved no reference to what was reported. Investigation techniques must involve being able to be able to fairly judge whether you are dealing with someone genuine or a hoaxer or someone liable to misinterpret what they see.

So did that prove these were extra-terrestrial craft? No. I believe that those observers saw something that they could not identify and after almost 40 years no such flying vehicle developed by nations on Earth has ever been revealed.

We -or a few of us- were not surprised when the USAF B2 Stealth bomber and F-117 Stealth fighter were revealed because a lot of 'UFO' reports were obviously of such man-made craft.  We have a good idea what the next generations will look like because of, again, 'UFO' reports (with the AOP Bureau we discreetly 'lost' those reports) .  We can even "guestimate" what the new Russian fighters and bombers will look like -RQ-180 for example.

Above a video looking at 'secret' USAF stealth craft and below something on the Russian developments.

No saucer-shaped craft with large windows....in fact some of the best detailed UFO reports do not involve descriptions of even experimental craft that were tried out.

You then get to abductions by aliens -"Greys" who apparently have been here for many generations but until the 1980s and the popularity created by abduction researchers books, TVs, movies and more, were not reported before. In fact, you have to ask, based on the "100% accurate" drawings just how many Greys there are.

I have dealt with abductions at length in these posts:

http://terryhooper.blogspot.co.uk/2016/08/the-greys-and-alien-abductions-hopkins.html

http://terryhooper.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/review-david-haisell-question-of.html

http://terryhooper.blogspot.co.uk/2015/11/the-complete-review-alien-dawn-by-colin.html

In fact, the clues as to what may be behind this whole phenomena (and I'm not talking about the hysteria that created much of this) are there in the reports detailed by the abduction researchers, though I tend to hate using the term "researchers" and, as anyone will known, I corresponded with, supported and even defended the work of Budd Hopkins and David Jacobs. Read the books of 'abductee' Dr Karla Turner and you will read all you need to know and the books should feature in a Psychology 101 somewhere.

I have had long term contact with 'abductees', both women, both very sincere and at a 1970s UFO conference in Trowbridge, Wiltshire (apart from being asked a string of questions privately by a Russian in a chauffeur driven car with Corps diplomatique number plates) I was able to examine one side of one of these ladies as overnight her entire left side had become reddened as though she had sunbathed just on that side facing the sun.  There was an explanation as I saw a much worse example a few years later that did not involve an abductee.

So I out-rightly dismiss all so called cases of "alien abduction"?  No. "What?? Are you kidding me? You just wrote--!"  Evidence.  You see, even my observations are not evidence just observations and I can't prove I saw what I saw.

I go by evidence or gather material that looks "substantial" and base further work on that. At my age I can no longer afford to think 40 years down the line!  But, ignoring the Jacques Vallee principle of "I never check anything myself but its a fact", I look more closely at past cases.

More on The Vallee Principle here:http://terryhooper.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/the-case-was-looked-at-by-none-other.html

Above: Franklyn A. Davin-Wilson

My late colleague, Franklyn A. Davin-Wilson told me how to investigate a report:

"Check the source given.  Then check the source that the
source gives. If it all tallies and you have spoken
to the original source or seen it -then use it"

As is seen in my books, in some cases it took 25-40+ years to get to the bottom of a report and the truth rather than repeating false information as some very well known Ufologists have done for decades.  And even the "world renowned" Flying Saucer Review has proven guilty of continuing to promote cases when they were fully aware that those cases were proven hoaxes or the result of psychological illness.

Ufologists do not like me saying this. It means I am a "debunker" -and to them that means someone who is out to lie or cover up the truth.  They need to consult a dictionary (no "Grey" pictures in it but lots of words):

"A debunker is a person who attempts to expose or discredit claims believed to be false, exaggerated, or pretentious. ... According to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, to "debunk" is defined as: "to expose the sham or falseness of."

You can only get to the truth by investigating and carrying out research.  If "A" is a case that is known to be a fake yet authors and Ufologists continue to promote it then you have to expose it to be such.  If you jumble up reports of seemingly constructed non-earthly craft (UFOBs) with light phenomena, ball lightning, meteorite sightings, mythology, known psychological cases, hoaxes and more then you do not have 'a phenomenon' that indicates extra-terrestrial visitation being covered up by world governments. You have a mess. The Vallee Principle in effect.

From 1973 onward I looked for alleged landings of "flying saucers" involving what were non-humanoid entities.  Why? Because good old Science dictated that were extra-terrestrials to visit Earth then they would not be humanoid.

This old post, currently being up-dated, looks at what I came up with:

The thinking, now, is that aliens might very well look human!

There are cases that I was asked to look for "holes" in.  One, the 1977 Lee Parrish abduction I failed to find any in. It was an encounter and then...nothing.  No claims to newspapers or anything you would expect from a hoax and the investigators who interviewed him straight after were stumped: Parrish seemed genuine.  But I did not investigate that one by talking to the percipient (where ever he may be now).

The "Flatwoods" case.  Ivan T. Sanderson was one of the first investigators there and he was stumped but believed what was reported. In the decades since every time someone "exposes" the case you find that the exposé  is a failure -it only succeeds with people who are closed minded and want (for their own reasons) that exposé to be the final answer. Good Christian family -no death bed hoax confessions or any straying from the facts given at the time and it seems that those involved would have been happier had they never reported the event.

The "Kelly-Hopkinsville" case. Investigated by very competent people who could find no fraud involved. Time and again since the 1950s there has been one exposé after another. All they achieved was to make the case even more solid.

I must hate those who do these exposés?  No.  You see, if these are honest people then they will focus on the weak points in a case.  If they come up with "Ten years before as a teen, 'Elmer' was arrested for being drunk which casts great doubt on his later story" then they are embarrassing themselves. What of the other seven people 'Elmer' was with when they had the encounter?

"LaSarza was suffering from a mental breakdown/was a hoaxer/was a drunk" Why? "Because he dun seen one a them there flying saucers and little green men!"  But no little green men were involved. Oh, 'local authorities' said so because these things "don't exist"....so US service personnel cooperating with Canadian forces roped off a road and were digging around the alleged landing area because that's what always happens when a nut/drunk/hoaxer saw he/she saw aliens?  Fair enough.

The point is that you have people who are skeptics and who do not care about facts. If out of some 100 facts they can find 1 that is even the remotest suspect for whatever reason then that case is a hoax. Case 'proven'.  For these people I have no time as they claim to adhere to "scientific principles" but "scientific principles" they can bend and twist to their own ends -this is provable to happen on both sides which is why there is so much nonsense going on.

Now, someone who asks "Is this true?!" and decides to look into the case -those are the best as they have no agenda other than to work things out for themselves and, sometimes, communicate what they find.  A flaw in the story? Something that seemed odd which makes you question the report? If we hear about these we may be able to answer the points satisfactorily because the lengthy npublic report was cut down for brevity.  Or we could go back and look at those aspects.  They may prove a hoax or whatever -good. Now we can close the case and move on. But the answers might make the case stronger.

1973, Pascagoula, Mississippi abduction  -drawing of one of the alleged entities above- I have read one exposé after another over 43 years (43 years!!) and none have achieved their aims.  Now I have to admit that I still search periodically to see if anyone has exposed the case as a fraud. Accusations and twisting facts or even not including facts is neither the "scientific way" nor very rewarding. The case remains as solid as it did in 1973 and I find that, at times, disturbing.

Below a documentary on the Pascagoula case.

I stand between Skeptics and Believers and hear and read all they have to say on cases. Then I weigh up the circumstantial evidence and decide whether the case deserves to be left open and further investigated or closed so I can move on to the next. Despite Charles Hickson and Calvin Parker and their accounts still standing up to scrutiny and even if they sound totally believable, it is still classed as circumstantial evidence because they experienced the event -I -"we"- did not.

What gives them a higher rating than most other alleged cases?  Firstly, the rarity of a description. Why do these people not report "typical" alien types from better publicized accounts?  This is why my files are always "active" -just in case a similar case pops up.  We might well expect genuine visitors from space to be rare rather than "common as pimples" and abducting millions of people for more than a century (which is, in fact by definition, Open and Hostile Contact).

There is a very little known case from the 1970s that I investigated and the entity reported (in fact two entities) were unlike any in my bulky files.  No UFO was reported but the case still got a file entry.

Then, reading a new book (at the time) that was just translated into English and that the witness had never heard of, I came across a case "similar" enough to note.

Looking through old journals last year (2016) for something unconnected I came across two very old cases that preceded the 1970s one with striking similarities!

In a conversation with someone else I was told of another similar case, same decade, reported to a noted British UFO investigator -the case was not even investigated because (he says) it involved teens...yet good enough to refer to elsewhere but with no real detail of any kind. Ufology at its best.

And, no I am not publicizing it here.

In essence: I could produce book after book citing non-investigated cases or cases in which the details are incorrect.  Who would know?  I'd make my money.  But in this case I could just watch TV sci fi and accept that as reality.  I am looking for evidence of real events and that makes me "the enemy" to Ufology.

Don't even get me started on "Forteans" -there was a very good reason why Charles Fort did not want a society or movement named after him. Known and worked with a lot of them. Some 99% are not free-thinkers or searching for truth but rather self publicity seeking frauds and worse.  "Evidence that no longer exists" I have found (it's all in my books).  Evidence to disprove a case -ignored "it's debunking!" sigh  Middle class, pseudo intellectuals.
Above Bernard Heuvelmans cited as "the Father of Cryptozoology"

Cryptozoologists. At least there were some of credibility.  People who did do research, who investigated and presented facts for and against.  Most modern "cryptozoologists" fall into the same category as Forteans and will skip and jump from one subject to another for money making and TV fees and "celebrity".  It is not without reason that the term "Cryptozoologist" has been altered by some to "Craptozoologist".

Ivan T. Sanderson looked at various phenomena including UFOs, "Fortean", natural history, cryptozoology and more.   Investigator/researcher and author as well as TV presenter. He was one of the first to investigate the Flatwoods case and to look at and write the classic definitive guide to mystery hominids Abominable Snowmen: Legend Come to Life.
The founders of hominoid research in Russia are (left to right): Boris Porshnev, Alexander Mashkovtsev, Pyotr Molin, Dmitri Bayanov, and Marie-Jeanne Koffmann. Photograph is from January 1968.

Dmitri Bayanov and his colleagues who, during the old Soviet era and today, look at reports of wildmen in Russia and have written groundbreaking books looking at the evidence and historical records -two I reviewed:

You read and you learn.  Now, since there are no Sasquatch-like creatures nor wild men in the UK I have to judge by what I read and see. There are enough books with technical details to turn me from a Sasquatch/Almas skeptic into someone who believes there certainly are unidentified large hominids out there.

Books on the subject that I'd recommend are (obviously Sanderson):

Dr. Jeff Meldrum: Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science (Forge, 2007)
Dr Grover Krantz: Bigfoot: Sasquatch Evidence (Hancock House, 1999)
Big Foot Prints a Scientific Inquiry (Johnson 1992)
John Green:         Sasquatch: The Apes Among Us (Hancock House, 2006)

There are, of course, a large number of books on the possible "Sea serpents" or as I prefer to call them unidentified sea creatures -and I've written about them including in posts here. The evidence for all these 'strange' subjects is strong and until you have looked at all the facts and case reports you should not say "Yay" or "Nay".

I have witnessed mild poltergeist activity.  I have seen "odd figures" -I have spoken to others who have.  Are they spirits of the dead? I doubt it. I, again, dealt with poltergeist and ghosts in Some Things Strange And Sinister.  I have seen no evidence of "life after death" visitations and, yes, I have a huge collection of journals and books. Both my grandparents said that after they died -if they could- they would visit me.  My mother and father said the same.  Nothing

My late colleague Franklyn stated the same and he was a huge believer in life after death -in his case I stated that I would sit for 30 minutes before and after the exact time he died on the date he died.  I did so for over 35 years. Nothing. And you have to admit that is a long term experiment!

So what are we dealing with?  I have a theory and that I will, eventually, publish.

Hated by Ufologists, cryptozoologists, Forteans, "paranormalists"(!) and hated by skeptics -I really do not care.

I prefer to be impartial and assess the evidence or facts -that is "the scientific way"
